England, Ireland, and Russia go at it in the persons of Oliver Cromwell, Daniel O'Connell, and Catherine the Great in this twelfth volume of the Meeting of Minds series. Steve Allen goofs by heralding Cromwell with the British anthem, "God Save the King," only to be reminded by an angry Cromwell that he was the only ruler of England who was neither king or queen. Cromwell (played by George Innes) and O'Connell (Michael McGuire), "the great Irish liberator," have no affection for each other, as one might imagine. And the Empress of Russia describes her love of her adopted country - but feels no shame for her more notorious passions. Steve Allen, the creative mind behind the program, remains the consummate host throughout and ensures his place in the pantheon of great entertainers.
