However, his life is much different from his expectations of it, and financial ruin almost sends him to prison. Pip's growth from a presumptuous boy to a man of depth and character has been thought Dickens's greatest literary achievement. Here it is expertly rendered into spoken word by Academy Award-winning actor Paul Scofield.
