Title Details
Description
Announced as a clarification of U.S. policies in the Western Hemisphere, President Roosevelt proclaimed an unlimited National Emergency in light of the worsening situation in Europe. There was strong fear that the Axis powers would invade and establish bases in the North Atlantic, perilously close to U.S. waters. By far the longest of the Fireside Chats (at 45 minutes), it also included an audience for the first time, made up of diplomats and their families from Latin America and Canada.
