In the wake of the Yom Kippur war in the Middle East, which led President Nixon to place U.S. forces on a high state of alert abroad, and the Saturday Night Massacre as a result of the Watergate scandal, President Nixon was facing the possibilities of impeachment at home. His press conferences were becoming increasingly combative and this conference was no different with Nixon’s famous retort to a reporter “one is only angry with those one respects”.
