Some 700 million years ago a natural catastrophe replaced a world of single cell organisms with a new world of multi-celled organisms. A bizarre variety of these new life forms evolved. New plants and animals competed for space and food. Sun and water sustained plants. Eating plants and other animals supported animals. Specialized cells produced specialized systems for absorbing food and detecting danger. Coming out of the water, plants and animals took command of the land. In the end lowly mammals replaced giant reptiles and accelerated the march of the brain.
