The Tao Te Ching or The Way and its Characteristics is the primary text in Chinese religious history. Written by Lao Tzu roughly 600 years before the birth of Christ, the Tao endevours to articulate the core beliefs that underpin both Taoism and Chinese Buddhism.
Second only to the Bible in its number of translations, the Tao's influence is hard to understate. A version of the text can be found in some form on every major continent and it has had a major mark particularly in the west. Though relatively short, this tome has inspired poets, artists, politicians and religious leaders alike with its direct language, practical advice and lyrical beauty. LearnOutLoud.com is excited to present this priceless wisdom for you on audio.

This is a recording of James Legge's 1887 translation of the Tao Te Ching. It is a completely different book from the I Ching/ Yijing.
'Dao' is the more modern (pinyin) - arguably more correct - spelling and pronunciation for 'tao'.

This is one of the most inspiring books ever written. Intensely philosophical and deeply mysterious, the yi-jing, or teh Tao te Ching, or the I Ching as it is commonly known in the west is presented here with much of its qualities.
There are certain qualities that need to be improved, such as, the narration, where the author pronounces the 't-ao' as 'd-ao' (as if with a blocked nose). The sound recording fails to amaze me as in a lot of places it seems as if the background and the foreground seem to overlap, creating a weirdly undescribable sound to me, being a layman in sound engineering that I am.
The content, however, remains mystical. A must listen to for all those who want to get a glimpse of taoist philosophy.
