In the rigid theocracy of Salem, Massachusetts, rumors that women are practicing witchcraft galvanize the town. The ruthlessness of the prosecutors and the eagerness of neighbor to testify against neighbor, THE CRUCIBLE mirrors the anti-Communist hysteria in the 1950’s.

L.A. Theatre Works pulled together a great cast to put on Arthur Miller's classic "The Crucible". The hysteria is high in these superb performances as the town of Salem is shrowded in the darkness of witchcraft, which is actually just a lot of fear, paranoia, and hatred that gets out of hand. The sound design is great as all the overlapping dialogue really amounts to a terrifying atmosphere of accusation. The play works well as an allegory for both the 1950s Red Scare and the global witch hunt for Terror we're currently crusading on.
