In 1787, William Bligh, commander of the Bounty, sailed on a voyage to Tahiti. During their six-month stay there, his men became completely demoralized and on the return voyage mutinied. Bligh and eighteen men were cast adrift in a small open boat. The narrative documents the voyage and Bligh’s relationships to his men and thereby poses the question of what type of man he really was.
