An Original Ghost Story

An Original Ghost Story

by Russell Kirk

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute Lecture Program assists in sponsoring lectures each year at the college, university, and preparatory school levels. ISI makes available top scholars and nationally known speakers to lecture at campuses across the country. These events examine both popular topics, such as affirmative action and core curriculum controversies, as well as perennial concerns, such as the nature of freedom and the best forms of government. ISI's lectures are rooted in fundamental principles and the enduring Western intellectual patrimony.

Dr. Kirk was one of this century's foremost men of letters. He was the founder of the conservative quarterlies Modern Age and The University Bookman. The Conservative Mind (Henry Regnery Company, 1953), Edmund Burke (Arlington House, 1967), The Roots of American Order (Open Court, 1974), Enemies of the Permanent Things (Arlington House, 1969), and Eliot and His Age (Random House, 1971) are among his over thirty books

LearnOutLoud.com Review:

 Scary Stuff
In this lecture released on audio by Intercollegiate Studies institute, Russell Kirk, a man perhaps most famous for shaping modern conservative thought with his book The Conservative Mind shares another passion: Ghost stories.

Starting his lecture by first musing on how all good ghost stories in his estimation must have a religious underpinning, Kirk then talks of a moment he had with a ghost he met in St. Andrews, Scotland. From there he reads a ghost story he wrote himself. A firm believer in Ghosts and a playful speaker, this lecture is a great example of Kirk''s multifaceted interests. That, and you get a great ghost story!
