Under the Radar: Eating Disorders in Disguise - Apr 04,2012
Author: Getting Good at Life Wed, Apr 04, 2012
Cleansing, purging, detoxing. When it comes to getting healthier, these are terms you may have heard a time or two. But theyre probably not not terms that the average person associates with an eating disorder. Usually the image of an emaciated young Caucasian girl plagued with issues of self-loathing comes to mind. But there is now evidence available that has broadened the scope and the definition of eating disorders, and some of them are more common than you think, even with minority women. Whether its downing laxatives on a regular basis, or indulging in the use of certain "health" drinks or supplements, some eating disorders are disguised as commonly accepted, natural do-it-yourself wellness practices. However, when it comes to this kind of homegrown healthcare, what you dont know may be destroying you in more ways than one. Tune in as me and my guest, clinical psychologist, Dr. Leslie Bessellieu, reveals some little known facts about the silent side of eating disorders and the women youd least expect to be affected by them. Tell every woman you know to tune in. This promises to be a very provocative show! 646-716-6910 or chat with us in the Javammunity room.

When Church Hurts - Jul 20,2011
Author: Getting Good at Life Wed, Jul 20, 2011
Theres no hurt like church hurt... Thc Body of Christ (more commonly known as the Church) is supposed to be a tangible, progressive outreach of Gods love. But the problem is that people are the conduits through which that love is meant to flow and unfortunately, they dont always handle others with care. It is an ugly fact that has left many would-be worhsippers feeling rejected and disillusioned. Perhaps youve remained a member of your church, but a piece of you has been lost to the realization that some of the spiritual mentors you once looked up to are not who you thought they were. If this describes your experience, you dont want to miss todays show. It is not Gods will for you to stay disconnected, especially from Him, or suffer in silence. Dont believe the lie that you can never be made whole again. There is still hope and you can break through to healing and restoration. There are not many miracles more splendid than the birth of a baby! You anxiously await their arrival, then once they're here, you fuss over every little detail of their life. Feeding, clothing, and housing them is the basic desire of every loving parent; and most of these needs come with available assistance, when necessary. However, there's one need that often goes overlooked - clean diapers. Most of us take it for granted that diapers are a readily available item, but sadly, this is not the case. With all the resources and opportunities available to us in this country, this should not be so! If you have a heart for moms who are caught in this dilemma, or you are a mom in this situation, then you don't want to miss this show. My guest, Hope Ewing (aka The Diaper Lady), is the Founder and President of The Diaper Foundation, a non-profit that exists to meet the practical and spiritual needs of moms and their babies. She's on a mission to supply underserved Houston area mothers with 100,000 diapers before the end of this year. The Ministry of Presence - Oct 13,2010
Author: Getting Good at Life Wed, Oct 13, 2010
In the 21st century culture, there are many arms of caregiving that cover just about every need a human being can have. But there's one so discreet and unsung that you might miss how vital it truly is. It's called the ministry of "just being there". The Bible admonishes us to "rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep." In other words, get intimately acquainted with one another's human condition. This is the bedrock of real love and caregiving - to extend yourself beyond yourself for someone else's benefit. My guest today was raised in a family that enthusiastically demonstrated and encouraged life from this perspective, and it had such a profound effect on her that she was prompted to make a radical change from a prominent six-figure career to a courageous venture into a life of service to others. She's Karen McMurray, "Head Angel" of a unique franchise in St. Louis, Missouri. Tune in to hear her inspiring story. Tell a friend and call in or chat with us LIVE during the show! 646-716-6910
