Jeff Yeager has been called the Today Shows resident cheapskate by Matt Lauer. A recent profile in the Washington Post referred to Jeff as a miser laureate and was picked up by the AP and run in many papers. He has embarked upon a successful radio campaign and started a hilarious website (created for $12.95), ultimatecheapskate.com. Now its time for Jeff to share the secrets of his penny-pinching success in The Ultimate Cheapskates Road Map to True Riches: A Practical (and Fun) Guide to Enjoying Life More by Spending Less, a practical and unique guide presenting a series of original concepts (like the innovative fiscal fasting, where listeners will spend virtually no money for a week, which forces one to use up leftovers in the freezer and half-empty boxes in the pantry) for managing the spending side of your finances. Jeff has developed some golden and rather humorous rules: I only buy new clothes at places where I can also buy pork chops, in bulk (a.k.a. big box stores like Costco). I also recant (as opposed to decant) the liquor I serve my guests, pouring cheap brands into empty premium brand bottles, a practice that has never, ever been questioned by my fawning guests. To save on energy costs as well as time, I cook soft boiled eggs in my dishwasher (top shelf for runny, bottom shelf for firm), and I also use my salad spinner to quick dry paper towels and plastic bags for reuse. I even inject leftover jelly into day-old donuts, if the plain ones are the only kind the bakery has on sale. And my compost pile, affectionately named Gomer Pile, is the steaming envy of organic gardeners throughout southern Maryland.
