Marketplace update

The podcast focussed on the biggest news of the day: Hurricane Katrina's effect on increasingly high oil prices but the podcast also and tacked on a couple of other headlines at the end.

The length was good and they were able to cover a good amount of ground on the oil price story in a short amount of time. If it were any longer, people might not listen. Any shorter and there would be a feeling of diminished coverage. The shorter headlines were dealt with (very well) in just a couple of sentences.

A rating of 4 stars is earned for quickly getting to the point, covering a good range of material in a well-written, well-spoken way (it didn't feel like it was rushed). It could have earned a 5th star if it went beyond three stories, and maybe covered a few more shorter headlines.

The CNN Marketplace Update podcast briefly reviews the biggest business headlines of the day. In just a few minutes, listeners are brought up to date on various topics like stock market trends, commodities prices, and major SEC rulings or other important governmental policies.

I think this podcast is an excellent way to get caught up with what's going on in the business world without having to sit through an entire newscast or without having to find a TV tuned to the Financial News Network. Of course, since Marketplace Update is only a few minutes long, you would have to do your own follow-up on any stories that really interest you. Overall, this is a 4-star podcast.
