The Benbrika terror trial
Australia's biggest ever terror trial -- the police investigation collected thousands of hours of video and audio evidence. The Supreme Court trial lasted six months. There were 12 accused, many, many lawyers, and 482 taped conversations were played to the jury. And only after deliberating for four weeks did the jury reach its verdict.

Private military contractors
In Iraq there are literally thousands of armed ex-soldiers -- guarding officials and diplomats, escorting truck convoys and patrolling all manner of installations and bases. Sometimes things go wrong. Last year employees of the Blackwater Corporation opened fire on a crowd in a Baghdad square, killing 17. The families of the deceased are now suing in US courts. War and conflict are never pretty, but are private corporations any more or less accountable than national armies?
