This series of lectures examines a crucial period in the history of the ancient world, the age ushered in by the extraordinary conquests of Alexander the Great.
In all the annals of the ancient world, few stories are more gripping than that of the Hellenistic Age. Between the conquests of Alexander the Great and the rise of Rome, Greek culture became the heart of a world-historical civilization whose intellectual, spiritual, and artistic influence endures to this day.

The Teaching Company Course on “Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic Age” was geared towards students and mature adult learners interested in Greek history. The course was taught by Jeremy McInerney and outlines the conquests of Alexander the Great as he traveled over the Middle East.
The lectures followed Alexander the Great from his birth in Macedonia and onto the battlefields leading into the formation of his three kingdoms of Syria, Macedonia, and Egypt.
McInerney also unexpectedly presents an in depth discussion on the art and literature that was common during the Hellenistic period.
Towards the end of the course, I felt the discussion was quite detailed in regards to the philosophy and belief system. Professor McInerney present Alexander the Great, as a noble solider that most people already thought of him as. However, he also ties in the conquests of Alexander the Great with how he went on to influence and spread Hellenism to Egypt and Syria. However, on a more somber note, the course ends with the rise of the Roman Empire and the defeat of Greece.
The course was available on DVD, audio CD, and tape cassettes. The audio cassettes consisted of twelve tapes that were approximately twelve hours of information.
