Bonsoir, Guten Abend, Buenas tardes, Buona sera! This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials.
Since our last news podcast there have been quite a number of developments here at Radio Lingua. So much is happening we've decided to streamline our news a little and in addition to our news podcast which is released every month, we're now producing an email newsletter. If you'd like to sign up to the newsletter, visit www.radiolingua.com/mailinglist and add your details. In addition to keeping up to date with developments you'll also receive exclusive discount codes for our store.
At the beginning of this month the whole team was down in London at the Language Show. We thoroughly enjoyed the three-day event and were delighted to meet many of our listeners who had come along especially to say 'hello'. Some of our listeners even volunteered to have their photos taken, so visit our website and click on our new Photo Gallery to see these. Our iPod competition was won by Hannah Bond from Staffordshire. Hannah wins an iPod nano preloaded with our entire library of podcasts. Congratulations to Hannah.
This week, Kara and I were in Cardiff to collect a European Award for Languages in recognition of the success of Coffee Break Spanish. The European Award for Languages is a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission which recognises innovative, effective and replicable approaches to language learning. The event was held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and the award was presented by Isabella Moore, CEO of CILT, the National Centre for Languages. You can watch the video podcast we filmed during the day over on our YouTube Channel, that's at www.youtube.com/radiolingua
Finally in tonight's news podcast I'm bringing you news of a new development for Radio Lingua: we're launching a brand new podcast tomorrow - that's Monday 27 November - which will teach you basic Polish in short weekly programmes. And when I say 'short' I mean short! Here's Ania to tell you more about 'One Minute Polish'.
And that's it for this edition of Radio Lingua News. We'll be back soon with details of our Holiday sale in the store. In the meantime, thanks for listening!

Feliz CumpleaĂos to Coffee Break Spanish - we launched the podcast exactly one year ago today and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our listeners from all around the world for listening to the show and helping us to develop Coffee Break Spanish over the last year. The past twelve months have been amazing - I worked out today that Coffee Break Spanish has had 9.6 million downloads in the past year - that's the equivalent of 18 people downloading a show every minute of every day! We've been top of most of the international education charts on iTunes and we've spent quite a bit of the year in the top 20 overall podcasts in the US. We've also recently won a European Award for Languages, ĂasĂ que estamos muy contentos! We're continuing to bring you new content and lesson 43 will be published next Monday. We're also producing Coffee Break French now and we're going to be launching new podcasts in the coming months, adding to our range of levels and languages.
We'd really like to thank you all for spending part of your day listening to the show and learning with us. Whether you're new to the podcast or if you've been here from day 1, thank you - muchĂsimas gracias a todos. Don't forget that you can join the birthday celebrations on our discussion board.

Radio Lingua Network News: 8 October 2007
mark@coffeebreakspanish.com (Radio Lingua Network)
Author: Radio Lingua Network Mon, Oct 8, 2007
Bonjour, Guten Morgen, Buenos dĂas, Buongiorno! This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials.
Today sees the launch of unit five of Coffee Break Spanish. In this unit, and indeed in this second 'level' of Coffee Break Spanish we're going to be getting into the language in a much deeper way. This will hopefully allow listeners to create the language more, to say what you want to say, rather than sticking to the phrases of previous lessons. Of course we've been teaching you all along how to change words to 'make the phrase your own', but we're going to be introducing some new concepts in this unit which will put you in control of the language you're learning. Lesson 41 introduces the concept of conjugating verbs. It all sounds a bit complicated, but we'll be taking things nice and easy as usual! You can subscribe to the programme for free at www.coffeebreakspanish.com.
Since our last edition of the Radio Lingua News podcast, we've launched Coffee Break French. I was in Paris with our French team and along with my cohost Anna we released the first show from the Eiffel Tower. We also shot some video footage for subsequent lessons in Paris, and did some filming for a new project we'll be telling you about soon. We've been overwhelmed with the reaction to CBF: within a few days the podcast was the #1 UK Education podcast on iTunes - even knocking CBS off the top spot! In just over a week we've had around 50,000 downloads and the feedback is great so far. In a couple of weeks' time we'll be introducing the premium version of the programme, and you can find out more on www.coffeebreakfrench.com. I mentioned in our last news programme that we're reworking the store and the purchasing options for all our podcasts. We're still working on this and some other events over the past two weeks have delayed this a little. We're still hoping to introduce the new version of the store in a couple of weeks, so do make sure you're checking the Radio Lingua site regularly.
Our problems of the last couple of weeks have included spam attacks on our CBS forum. We had been using a hosted forum since the early days of CBS, and this was possibly the reason for the problems. We decided this week to relaunch the forum as a generic Radio Lingua forum on our own servers, giving us more control over spam filtering. It also means that there's now somewhere for all our learners, so whether you're listening to CBS, CBF, MDPG, MDPI or any of our future podcasts and languages, there's somewhere for you to go and practise your language skills. Most importantly, the forum is a place where you can share your learning with other learners and help each other out. Unfortunately the new forum setup does mean that users will need to sign up again to the forum. It's a very quick process so please don't let that put you off. We look forward to seeing you over on the forum where you can practise your language skills and join the RL community. To access the forum, visit www.radiolingua.com and click on "Discussion Forum" in the menu.
And finally, if anyone is in the London area at the beginning of November we're going to be at the Language Show at Olympia from Friday 2nd until Sunday 4th November. This is the UK's biggest event for language learners and teachers and you can get free tickets from the Language Show website at www.thelanguageshow.co.uk. We'll have a booth at the stand and we'll be showing off some of our new products and services. It would be great to meet some of our listeners, so come along and say "hola", "salut", "hallo" or "ciao" to us at stand 42. There will be more details about exactly what we're going to be showing off at the Language Show in our next news programme!
And that's it for this edition of Radio Lingua News. Thanks for listening!

Author: Radio Lingua Network Tue, Sep 18, 2007
This is Mark from the Radio Lingua Network and I'm here to bring you some of the latest news about our language-learning materials. It's been a while since we released a CBS news podcast, and there's just so much happening just now we thought it was time to add this news podcast to all our feeds to bring you the latest information. This news programme will be added to all our podcast feeds to make sure everyone hears about what's happening, regardless of which language you're learning with us. There's also another reason why we wanted to release the news podcast today, but more about that in just a moment!
First up today is the news that Coffee Break Spanish has won a European Award for Languages. The award recognises "creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students and make the best of available resources". It's a Europe-wide initiative supported by the European Commission. The UK co-ordinator of the initiative is CILT, the National Centre for Languages. In total 15 initiatives were recognised involving language-learners of all ages. According to the judges, "the success of Coffee Break Spanish across the world shows that podcasting can promote language awareness and competence regardless of geographical location". Kara and I will be at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 20 November to accept the award. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of Coffee Break Spanish, and we're looking forward to the new season beginning in a few weeks. All the Coffee Break Spanish news can be found at www.coffeebreakspanish.com
Final preparations are underway for our launch of Coffee Break French next week. The French team is heading out to Paris this weekend in preparation for the launch.
