Ever since it appeared 900 years ago, Rashi's commentary to the Hebrew scriptures has been considered essential for understanding the Jewish perspective in biblical studies. Yet, many of his statements apear baffling to the un-initiated. In these lectures Rabbi Nathan Glick explains how Rashi's commentary works, and what makes it so special.  Rashi's method is to examine the text of the Torah carefully, and to identify the sections and subsections of the text. Each part of the text needs to be viewed within the context of verbally transmitted material, which eventually came to be formalized in the Midrashim. In this way is the full meaning of the Torah made clear.
