Don Quixote dons rusty armor to become a knight-errant, roaming the world to right wrongs. From his first encounter with a score of windmills to the night he takes a funeral procession to be a parade of monsters, Quixote manages nonetheless to experience moments of lucidity.

Don Quixote is one of those novels that I avoided for many, many years because of its length. After I got a portable MP3 player, I decided to give the Audiobook version a try. I'm glad I did.
The reader, Robert Whitfield, has a wonderful voice that is very easy to listen to. This is important for audiobooks, especially one as long as Don Quixote, which represents a time investment of close to 19 hours. Whitfield does a great job of making Don Quixote and sidekick Sancho sound like the good-hearted fools that they are.
The audio presentation was excellent. The sound level and quality was consistent throughout, and sounded like a modern production.
The story itself is wonderful, too It lives up to its reputation as one of the best literary works in the Western canon. It is full of action, adventure, and comedic situations. It is also an easy plot to follow, and doesn't require 100% mental attention and concentration when you are listening.
I recommend going with an MP3 download of the unabridged version, if possible. I can't imagine having to deal with 14 CDs or 13 cassette tapes! Whichever way you end up listening to this book, you won't be disappointed!
