Prunella Scales trained at the Old Vic Theatre School and with Uta Hagen in New York. She is particularly well known for her work as Sybil in Fawlty Towers, and she also appeared in the film Howard's End and in the television miniseries of Emma. Her performance in Alan Bennett's play about Anthony Blunt, A Question of Attribution, was highly acclaimed. She was awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1992.
