Description

Original author: L.M. Montgomery
Retold by author: Richard Ganci

Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are an elderly brother and sister who live on a farm called Green Gables in Canada. Matthew is getting too old to do all the work on the farm, so Marilla decides to adopt a young orphan boy to help out. But when Matthew Cuthbert goes to the train station to pick up the boy, he’s in for a surprise! Instead of a little boy, Matthew meets Anne, a red-haired eleven-year-old orphan girl who’s gleeful to be going home with him.

Marilla tells Matthew that they have no use for a girl, especially not one who talks all the time. But after hearing the story of Anne's life, Marilla decides to let her stay at Green Gables.

Anne of Green Gables chronicles the hilarious mishaps that befall the freckled orphan on her way to becoming a young adult. This funny, lively story has fueled the imaginations of young readers for nearly a century.
