Ivan Turgenev (1818-83) was noted for his poetic realism and skill at characterization. His greatest novel, Fathers and Sons, was badly received in Russia, but a particular success in England. He also wrote poetry, plays, short stories, and tales of the supernatural. His other works include the play A Month in the Country, and A Nest of Gentlefolk.
David Horovitch trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He works extensively in the theatre and has made numerous television appearances. He can frequently be heard in BBC radio drama.
