This was a very accessible introduction to the history of our discovering the galaxy from Galileo to the theory of relativity and quantum physics. Ferris ties to together a lot of concepts that we’ve heard of but never really been able to understand or put in the context of scientific advancement. And the abridged version never gets hung up on technical detail or extraneous biographic content. It’s an excellent start for people interested in learning the basic history of physics and astronomy in the modern era.
