Jon Stewart, host of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning The Daily Show, and his coterie of patriots deliver a hilarious look at American government.
Termed a "political king-maker" by Newsweek, and "the Dan Rather of infotainment" by Vanity Fair, Jon Stewart, along with the writers of The Daily Show, combines his riotous wit and razor-sharp insight in this hilarious book.
American-style democracy is the world's most beloved form of government, which explains why so many other nations are eager for us to impose it on them. But what is American democracy?
In America (The Audiobook), Jon Stewart and The Daily Show writing staff offer their insights into our unique system of government, dissecting its institutions, explaining its history and processes, and exploring the reasons why concepts like "one man, one vote", "government by the people", and "every vote counts" have become such popular urban myths.
Among the topics:
Ancient Rome: The First Republicans
The Founding Fathers: Young, Gifted, and White
The President: King of Democracy
The Supreme Court: 18 Legs, Four Tits, One Mission
Running for Office: What Are You Thinking?
The Media: Can It Be Stopped?
The Future of Democracy: The Constitutional Robocracy and You!

America (The Audiobook) is a joke every five seconds. It’s very well recorded satirizing every single thing it comes across in American history. A lot of the jokes are just easy lewd throwaways, but there is some great satire here. John Stewart narrates almost all of it, while there are some guest narrators that I’d assume are from the Daily Show. Stewart is the funniest in delivery though and there’s also a lot of humor from the cheesy historical voices and the voice of the host that introduces each chapter and provides activities and discussion questions afterwards. My favorite being: “If Pro is the opposite of Con, then is Progress the opposite of Congress, or did we just f&@#ing blow your mind?” It’s definitely been created for audio book and is thoroughly entertaining. So I’ll probably come back and listen to it again sometime.

This book is a must have for any Jon Stuart fan. For me it was like being able to take the Daily Show with me in my car. He reads his book in a news reporter style with cameos from all of your favorite personalities from the Daily Show.
Annnnddd... I learned some stuff about how our government works in the process, which I guess is a plus, but I was more in it for the laughs.
Samantha Bee explains how Canada became a country, and interrupts a few times to explain how Canada did things peacefully (at the expense of a few freedoms) in a very humorous fashion. I always wondered about that...
Definitely worth checking out. If you are broke this holiday season, I suggest buying this title, listening to it, and then wrapping it up and giving it away to a family member or friend-- it is worth the potential nasty look/gesture. ;)
