In his 1961 inaugural speech, John F. Kennedy spoke of the challenges posed by the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union and urged "both sides seek to invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors". This speech also contains JFK's most famous utterance: "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country".
