Keynote at Mori Museum, Tokyo, Japan
Wed, May 06, 2009
May 1, 2009: I've been talking about giving my "last" free culture talk for a long time, and indeed, given renewed discipline, I have very few opportunities left. But the Mori offered me an opportunity to synthesize a great deal and the result is this (very) long piece that draws together both parts to my book, REMIX -- remix, and the hybrid -- and adds something from David Post's book as well. Except for a couple times when I had to cough (and the audience was then terrified that I was carrying the swine flu), it is just about the most complete statement I've got on that chapter in my work.

Good Soul "corruption"
Wed, Mar 11, 2009
Again and again, people misunderstand the charge of "corruption." They imagine that the only "corruption" is individual -- as if it is a crime that predicates only of someone doing something that is illegal or unethical. But that is NOT the only corruption. It is corruption as well when someone does something that tends to weaken the effectiveness of their institution. This is the kind of "corruption" that is endemic in Congress today. Here's an example I give about Hilary Clinton that makes the point. It is 4 minutes. Watch it. To understand more, watch the billion-minute blathering of any of these longer speeches.

Keynote for "Speech, Privacy and the Internet: The University and Beyond"
Mon, Nov 24, 2008
A keynote given November 21, 2008, at the University of Chicago's conference "Speech, Privacy and the Internet: The University and Beyond". As described on the conference site, "The conference is devoted to an interdisciplinary discussion of the legal and ethical issues posed by the new ways in which privacy can be invaded." My talk is the first version of a talk I hope to refine over time. Viewers will recognize very little (indeed, nothing save 5 slides at the end) from other presentations. The talk begins with an (over-the-top) introduction by Cass Sunstein.
