Gene Sperling was President Clinton's National Economic Adviser and head of the National Economic Council from 1996-2000. Before joining the Council, he was a Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution from 2001-2002. In addition to his work at the Council, Gene also serves as a Contributing editor and columnist for Bloomberg News and a consultant and contributing writer for the television show The West Wing. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.

Gene is widely considered an expert in economic policy and international education assistance, and is currently working on the contributions that religious schools can make toward achieving universal education in the Islamic world.
