Can a Free Society Tolerate Warrantless Spying in the War on Terror?

by John J. Miller

John J. Miller is National Review magazine's National Political Reporter, based in Washington, D.C., and author of The Unmaking of Americans: How Multiculturalism Has Undermined the Assimilation Ethic (The Free Press, May 1998). He is also a contributing Editor to Reason magazine and writes frequently on political and social issues for a variety of publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Reader's Digest, and The New Republic. The American Prospect has called Mr. Miller "one of the brightest young thinkers on the right." More recently, the Washington Monthly named him a "rising star" among a "new generation of conservative thinkers and writers."

Before joining National Review in 1998, Miller was Vice President of the Center for Equal Opportunity, which he helped found with Linda Chavez, and a Bradley Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. Prior to that, Mr. Miller was a reporter and researcher at the New Republic, where he worked with Fred Barnes.

While attending the University of Michigan, Miller edited the award-winning student newspaper, The Michigan Review.
