The Articles of Confederation



The Articles of Confederation defined a loose confederation between the thirteen colonies mentioned in the Preamble.

This was the first governing document of the United States, ratified by the Second Continental Congress in 1781. The Articles of Confederation were replaced by the United States Constitution in 1788.
