In What Would Jesus Eat? The Ultimate Program for Eating Well, Feeling Great, and Living Longer, Don Colbert, M.D. makes a compelling case for Christians to use the blueprint of this appetizing spin on traditional faith-based diet books to develop a healthier lifestyle using foods available today. "If you truly want to follow Jesus in every area of your life, you cannot ignore your eating habits," postulates Colbert. He examines America's alarming addiction to fast food, explores Old Testament Jewish dietary laws, and takes a comprehensive look at foods mentioned in the Bible, from herbs to bread to meat. To this information Colbert adds a healthy serving of Scripture references, mixes in a few anecdotes, and finishes the book with an easy-to-follow weekly eating guide. Colbert also tackles the subject of drinking red wine as part of a healthy lifestyle, something often ignored in Christian-based health books. Readers looking for spiritual reasons to make dietary changes will discover excellent justification here to take the plunge.

What Would Jesus Eat? (3.5 Stars) (INCOMPLETE)
General Content: What Would Jesus Eat (WWJE I guess… ) is an interesting book. It attempts to lay down a set of nutritional guidelines based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ as well as other biblical information. While this goal is honorable, it’s also quite ambitious given that there really isn’t a lot of direct nutritional guidance given in the Bible.
Colbert does a good job in finding relevant information but there are numerous times throughout the book when he seems to be reaching. No soybeans in the days of Jesus? Well, we’re “absolutely” sure he would have eaten them had they existed. This is a bit of stretch because it begs the question as to whether you couldn’t extend that same logic to just about any food. Throughout the book it often seems as if Colbert has figured out his nutritional recommendations first and then tried to find biblical logic to support these rather than the other way around.
Having said that, the nutritional guidance in this book is really solid. Colbert recommends a Mediterranean diet which is perhaps the most beneficial diet currently in existence. His approach to nutrition is very sensible and easy to follow. So while the religious connection is a little questionable, this is an informative book and hopefully will encourage many individuals, especially Christians, to radically improve their dietary habits.
Audio-Specific Content: I listened to the abridged (two cassettes) version of this book. The abridgement seemed fine and the book included adequate information.
