Led by incredible faith, David Wilkerson made a seemingly bizarre step from his country pulpit in 1958 to the streets of New York City, where a murder trial of seven teenaged boys churned society’s antipathy toward them. Even Wilkerson was bewildered by his sense of compassion, but in spite of doubt, he followed the Spirit’s prompting to help the boys. The Cross and the Switchblade is the amazing story of his journey and of the mighty power of God to accomplish the impossible. This is the true story of the beginning of David Wilkerson's ministry to the gangs of New York City and the conversion of Nicky Cruz, the notorious gang leader. The power of Christ to change the human heart is presented with unmistakable clarity and unforgettable impact. This book deals powerfully with the problems tearing at the fabric of our society today.

I remember having a teacher in school who made the class read this book and we discussed it along the way. I never forgot this book. What a brave soul he has. What a wonderful lesson to teach children!
