2008-12-14 Art's Heart
Author: ABC Radio National Sun, Dec 14, 2008
Three different artists and three very different relationships to spirituality and creativity. This Encounter considers the impact of the spiritual on both artistic practice, and content.
We visit Hindu traditional dance guru Anandavalli, artistic director of the Lingalayam Dance Company in her downstairs dance studio in Homebush, Sydney. Here she teaches a bevy of young girls, spending quite a lot of time ironing their beautiful silk costumes, and while she does so, dreaming up new choreographies of ancient stories.
WeŽll go to Perth where composer, poet and Zen Roshi Ross Bolleter has a house full of 'ruined' pianos on which he composes, and writes poetry.
And we go to the study of composer Andrew Schultz, Professor of Composition and Dean, Faculty of Creative Arts at Wollongong University, and explore his journey from a Lutheran upbringing to non-belief.
