NRSV Audio Bible - New Testament

The NRSV project was begun to develop a literal translation that would become the standard for all Christians into the 21st century.

The guiding principle for the NRSV translators has been as much as possible to provide a line-for-line, word-for-word translation of the original early Bible manuscripts. The translator's maxim has been "as literal as possible as free as neccessary."

The goal of the NRSV effort has been replacement of archaic words...correction of confusing word order, updating of English words and phrases that have changed in meaning...use of common gender words when such was the intent of the original biblical writers...and improved clarity for oral reading.
