Over the last decade, physicists, biologists, astronomers, and economists have created a new way of understanding the growth of the complexity in nature. Chaos is a record of a revolution, the birth of a new science. This New York Times best seller is also one of the best selling science books ever written.

while this book does not go in depth on the mathmatical side of chaos it does require some understanding of math for even the most basic concepts of chaos. this book focuses on the history of chaos and how it developed as a science, some of these concepts are rather difficult to grasp so for someone who has no intention of majoring in any sort of science i do not recommend this book. however, for those who do have an applicable background in science and or math or plan to in the future, this book is a must read and will give you an entirely different outlook on the world you live in. i personally believe that chaos is one of the most fascinating new sciences of our time, and this book does a great job of explaining how.

Like other James Gleick books (namely “Faster”) “Chaos” presents an interesting topic with some interesting facts and observations, but it really doesn’t take us anywhere. The history of Chaos theory is given and some of it’s applications are mentioned, but this science seems pretty ridiculous to me.
