Stephen Pinker, one of the world's leading cognitive scientists, explains in this bestseller what the mind is, how it evolved, and how it allows us to see, think, feel, and ponder the mysteries of life. He presents a big picture, a grand synthesis of the explanations of our mental life as proposed in cognitive science and evolutionary biology. He does this with the clarity and verve that earned his earlier work, The Language Instinct, worldwide critical acclaim and awards from major scientific societies.

The unabridged book is better, but slow reading. Actually, I like Pinker's reading voice, not found here!
