About the Author
Ram Dass was born in 1931 as Richard Alpert. He studied psychology and received a M.A from Wesleyan and a Ph.D. from Stanford. While he was a professor at Harvard in the early 1960's, his explorations of the human consciousness led him to pursue research with LSD-25 and other psychedelics.
In 1967 Alpert traveled to India, where he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, under whose guidance he studied yoga and mediation and received the name Ram Dass, which means "servant of God".
Today, Ram Dass is an author, lecturer and spiritual teacher. His teachings have focused on the path of karma yoga--of turning the experiences of our daily lives into the substance of our spiritual path.
