I can’t quite put the finger on why but I’m a huge Wayne Dyer fan. I think it has something to do with his adherence to what I’ll call “anti-self-development”. It’s a philosophy that promotes looking within one’s self rather than looking outside of one’s self for the answer. Rather than consistently achieving for the sake of your ego, instead you’re standing aside and letting God work through you. There is something extremely refreshing about that.
The mind/body connection that Dyer is a big believer in has always been pretty esoteric to me. However, only recently have I started to even more concrete examples of manifestations of our thoughts in the physical world. I’ll credit Dyer with at least some of that (as he would say) shift in consciousness. I’m midway into one of Dyer’s recommended books, “Power vs. Force” and I’m finding it fascinating.
In “Spiritual Solution” Dyer takes a live audience through a number of his stories ranging from childhood spent partially in an orphanage to a fascinating (and almost unbelievable) story about a woman finding him in a bookstore in Florida. It’s an uplifting ride highlighted by his discussions of St. Francis of Assisi and his read of Mother Theresa’s “The Final Analysis”. If you’re a Dyer fan you’ll love this one. If not, you just may become one.
Audio-Specific Content: I listened to the unabridged (7.5 hours in length) version of this title through Audible.com. It is recorded at a live seminar but the sound quality and quality of Dyer’s voice is great. I truly feel that people who only read Dyer are missing something. He has a magical and calming voice which makes (in my mind) listening to him far superior to reading his books.
