James Howard Kunstler is a popular critic of architecture and urban design and a proponent of "The New Urbanism." He is the author of The Geography of Nowhere as well as its continuation, Home From Nowhere: Remaking Our Everyday World for the 21st Century. Mr. Kunstler states the purpose of his book saying, " I believe a lot of people share my feelings about the tragic landscape of highway strips, parking lots, housing tracts, mega-malls, junked cities, and ravaged countryside that makes up the everyday environment where most Americans live and work. A land full of places that are not worth caring about will soon be a nation and a way of life that is not worth defending."Mr. Kunstler is also the author if eight novels including The Halloween Ball and An Embarrassment of Riches. He is a regular contributor to the New York Times Sunday Magazine and Op-Ed page, where he has written on environmental and economic issues. He has lectured at Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth, Cornell, MIT, RPI, the University of Virginia and many other colleges. He has appeared before many professional organizations such as the AIA , the APA., and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. His presentations are enhanced through the use of humor and visuals.
