Actor Christopher Timothy, who played the part of James Herriot in the BBC series "All creatures great and small", reads the Herriot book and brings it to life. Unlike other audio readers, Timothy is able to give a distinct voices and accents as appropriate to the many characters.
My wife and I bought the tapes for our children, as my 9-year old daughter has often said she would like to be a vet. I thought they might be a bit slow and I anticipated them losing interest, but that was NOT the case. They listen to the tapes every night before bed. Each story is a perfect 20 to 30 minute tale, so they can hear one or two and doze off dreaming of cute and cuddly barnyard animals.
I should add that, although I enjoyed the BBC series, the original stories are better by far. They are thought provoking, charming, and at times, downright hilarious.
