Description

Each program we interview various species of Globeshakers who work across the world and across industries, using innovation to shake up the status quo.

  • Shakers work on the ground working for social change.
  • Movers use their star power and influence to build buzz for a mighty cause.
  • Big Brains reveal thoughts and theories that make a big splash.
  • Geeks for a Greater Good harness the power of connected economies, embedded computing, robotics and smart mobs.
  • Policy Wonks have their ear to the ground, listening for the legislative drumbeat.
  • Grease Monkeys work under the hood of social engines such as non-profits, NGOs or foundations.
  • Enlightened Corporate Hacks are true system-thinkers who jolt the marketplace by injecting new language, who fabricate sustainable business models, and, most important, who are thinking global.

The program's host, Tim Zak is currently president of the Social Enterprise Accelerator in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A former management consultant with McKinsey and Company, Tim also teaches part-time at Carnegie-Mellon's Tepper School of Business.

Since 2002, Tim Zak has served as president of the Pittsburgh Social Enterprise Accelerator. When he started in fall of 2002, the organization operated out of the trunk of his car and neighborhood coffee shops. Today, the Accelerator, which operates primarily like a venture capital firm for social innovators throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania, works directly with a dynamic portfolio of social sector organizations bent on changing the world.
