When young Michael Dell began selling personal computers out of his college dorm room, he launched a new kind of business model dealing directly with consumers. When he embraced the Internet as his selling channel, bypassing traditional brick-and-mortar retailing, his model was complete. The result was $25 billion in sales in the last year. Dell Computer Corporation has been on the Fortune 500 list since 1992, and its founder is a billionaire many times over. In this address he tells what he has learned and where the still-young Internet economy is headed. He also tells his story in the 1999 book, Direct from Dell.
