Free Literature Galore from Lit2Go

We recently featured this in our Free Resource of the Day Email, and we felt compelled to feature it in our E-Magazine as well because it is such an invaluable resource.

By far one of the largest free collections of literature to be released on MP3 download is the University of South Florida's Lit2Go Collection. This library of literature is now available as a podcast through iTunes U, and can also be listened to and downloaded on MP3 through LearnOutLoud.com. On the Lit2Go website they also feature PDFs and text webpages of the audio titles.

This treasure trove of free downloadable audio books, poetry, and short stories is aimed at K-12 educators, but most of its resources can be enjoyed by literature listeners of all ages.

From what we can tell all of the audio titles are unabridged and they've been professionally recorded with good narrators. (Note that on the podcast feeds some of the audio files are out of order, and you'll need to scroll around a little to make sure you have all the files when it comes to the audio books.)

They've compiled their resources according to grade level from Kindergarten to 12th Grade, and the titles in the upper grade levels are certainly appropriate for older audiences as well. We've compiled a comprehensive list of what they have to offer at each grade level:
