Civil Disobedience

Civil Disobedience

by Henry David Thoreau

Classic essay by Thoreau explaining why he went to jail rather than submit to a tax he felt unjust, Civil Disobedience served as inspiration to both Gandhi and Tolstoy and continues to be regarded as a definitive statement of the rights of the individual within the state.

Write a Review of Civil Disobedience

If I didn't have the essay on paper to read along, it would be hard to understand. It seemed like the voice was sped up at the end of every sentence, never heard a real human being speak like that. Like when he said "sometimes got in its way" it sounded like "sometimes got intsay." It also seemed like it had slowed down in some parts, probably to make things seem real. But it was an overall good read. Thanks.

I liked the content of the essay very much and would rate it alone a 5/5. The reading of it was ok but a bit dry overall. Hence the 4/5 rating.
