Description

Dinesh D'Souza discussed his life, philosophy, and writings. He responded to viewer telephone calls and electronic mail. Topics included his intended influence on public policy, counteracting liberal attitudes that are taken for granted, denouncing political correctness, widening the debate on the background causes of the September 11 terrorists attacks, liberalism of college professors, and the mistake of trying to impose secularism on Middle Eastern governments. He said that the Carter administration's encouraging the Shah of Iran to abdicate "was one of the worst blunders in American foreign policy in the past half century." Video clips were shown of him at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, from January 21, 2007, discussing his writing techniques. Mr. D'Souza responded to a video clip which was shown of Glenn Loury criticizing him in a 2002 "Booknotes" interview. Mr. D'Souza is the Rishwain Research Scholar at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He was previously the John M. Olin Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. From 1987 to 1988 he was a senior policy analyst at the Reagan White House. From 1985 to 1987 he was managing editor of Policy Review. Dinesh D'Souza's most recent book is, The Enemy at Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11, published by Doubleday in January 2007. He is the author of six previous books, Letters to a Young Conservative, What's So Great About America, The Virtue of Prosperity, Ronald Reagan, The End of Racism, and Illiberal Education.
