The 80/20 Principle
Learn how the 80/20 Principle can benefit your life!
The 80-20 principle states that for many phenomena 80% of consequences stem from 20% of the causes. The idea has rule-of-thumb application in many places, but it is commonly misused. This idea is often applied to data such as sales figures: "20% of clients are responsible for 80% of sales volume." Such a statement is testable, is likely to be approximately correct, and helpful in decision making.

In this podcast by zaadz.com, founder and CEO Brian Johnson gives an overview of the book – 80/20 Principle. The podcast starts with an introduction with a nice mix of fusion jazz playing in the background.
Brian tells how many authors discuss the 80/20 principle as a core component of time management, but they fail to give its practical applications, something he suggests this book does. According to the 80/20 principle, 20% of the efforts bring 80% of the results. This principle, Brian tells, was formulated in 1897, when two economists were studying wealth and income distribution. They found out that 20% of the population controlled 80% of the income. Moreover, this held true in different countries and for different time periods. They also found out that in their gardens, 20% of the peapods yielded 80% of the peas harvested. Brian then goes on to tell, by giving examples, that 20% of the criminals are responsible for 80% of the crime, and similarly, 20% of the married individuals are responsible for 80% of divorces.
The audio quality of this podcast is very good and so is the narration. However, the mp3 audio file I downloaded ended abruptly in the middle of the sentence, even though it was completely downloaded and playing normally!
