Chip Conley Talk on Emotional Equations

In this hour-long discussion hosted by Google, hotel entrepreneur and author Chip Conley explains how we can use mathematical language to measure the elements of a worthwhile life. During a difficult time in his life, Conley looked to positive psychologists, such as Abraham Maslow and Viktor Frankl for a strategy to combat his growing despair. His solution was to come up with clever emotional equations (for example Anxiety = Uncertainty x Powerlessness) that are simple enough to remember as handy tools when we are overwhelmed by certain emotions. As use of his equations become more widespread, Conley has found their application can not only address personal challenges, but can also be applied to understanding the emotional dynamics in families and business networks.
