Description
This course examines the history of anthropological thought from its early European origins to today. History of thought is the history of its models, as Fredric Jameson once said. This class will focus on how vision and method of the discipline as a social science field have changed in time, bearing a history of complicated relations with other people and cultures which, from the late nineteenth century onwards, came to form a "scientific" object of knowledge. How our world is seen from this "anthropo-logical" tradition still holds crucial importance for our understanding of on-going cultural struggles of the world.
