Art Mobs MoMA Guides Podcast by Art Mobs

Art Mobs returns with a new project. Now we're focusing our attention on the Museum of Modern Art. We've produced (unofficial) audio guides for MoMA, and we're making them available as podcasts. We'd love for you to join in by sending us your own MoMA audio guides, which we'll gladly add to our podcast feed. Why should audio guides be proprietary? While the idea behind these podcasts is interesting- very short snippets of info on art clipped from museum audio tours- for both children and adults, they are a bit annoying to listen to. It doesn’t seem like MOMA gave this much thought for podcast format. We are directed to look at sections of the art as we listen, but that doesn’t quite have the same impact if the art isn’t actually there. If you want a very brief art tidbit to prepare yourself for cocktail party small talk, or to introduce your kids to some artist’s names these are fine. There is one longer lecture on Pissaro and Cezanne which was fairly interesting, but for anything more in-depth, you may be disappointed.

I think this podcast has a lot of potential and is a really good idea. Unfortunately it is an idea executed by some not so educated hipsters who lazily banter on about the paintings. The official Museum of Modern Art Podcast is better. That contains the audio that you would get when you buy the little speaker at the museum. And on MOMA's site:

You can also view the paintings along with listening to the audio they have for them. I think a lot of museums should do this, but probably won't. That's why the Art Mobs has a good idea with doing a podcast about paintings in a museum unofficially. But we need some art historians or educated art lovers to do it.
