I was always looking for a way out of it (the social situation). I’d feel like everyone was inside of my head, I had completely unnecessary level of being anxious. And it just was very debilitating. I always looked for a good time to leave. I thought people felt I was weird, or off.

I was really closed off before the coaching, very hermit-like. Not much energy to go out and do things. After the coaching I gradually got out of that cycle of the habitual isolation to the point where I started seeking to go places and really wanting to get out of the house and do something.

It’s much, much better. It’s to the point it still surprises me (how good I feel) cause I’ve been isolating for so long. I’m much more calmer, much more present in the moment.

With the tapping I just started to accept it. Throughout the tapping the more I addressed it (my past) there was more acceptance, more relaxation while talking about it, making it so that while I’m talking about it I can’t get upset about it. That just led to me accepting it and starting to develop a more outward perception of what happened to me.

I have so much more self acceptance man. That’s been big for me. I feel I’ve been more able to express myself without fear of judgment or criticism. I can just express myself and if someone doesn’t like me: OK. Like alright, that’s fine. There’s been a lot of peace in that. I’m feeling better about myself too.

This was a wonderful experience. It’s amazing to me, at times throughout my day I just significantly notice the differences tapping has made. I go like “wow I wasn’t comfortable doing this a few months ago”. It works man, it works miracles”.

The importance of healing your emotional wounds

I interview the creator of the powerful and simple healing technique “The Emotion Code”. This is something I have personally benefited from tremendously. It’s an amazing technique and he gives it to you for free in this episode!?

How to feel good about getting triggered

One of the most terrifying, frustrating, overwhelming and discouraging things is for many people "getting triggered".

Getting triggered can be by an intense spike of anxiety, or by a person, situation or circumstance triggering old wounds within you. These wounds then get opened, and you end up reliving the pain of that old trauma. This can be very challenging to deal with when you do not have the right understanding and perspective.

Therefore I've created in this podcast an EFT tap-along for you to gain the proper mindset to take on when you do get triggered. A socially happy woman's perspective on social confidence

How boring would it be if you’re always perfect?

The words of Olivia Pino, a 33 year old woman who's enjoying a satisfying social life in various countries in the world. She's a friend and a great example of what "effortless social confidence" feel like, looks like, and is.

She shares a super simple and effective way to start a social life from scratch. 

She in between the lines shares the difference that makes the difference between just meeting people or meeting people and becoming friends, and says things like:

"I now know myself more. And it doesn’t really matter what they think of me as long as I’m true to myself and that I’m speaking my truth. Why would I be worried about what they think if I’m OK with myself?"

"What I can control is my emotions, why would I try to control someone else’s emotions? It’s not my job…"

"I just introduce myself and see what comes."

"You need to sift through the shit to get to the good. It’s about having everything. You can’t see that really in the media. All you see is the perfect stuff. Having an awareness that people have flaws really helps."

How to get a romantic relationship that is awesome

She goes over some of the fears and beliefs that prevent people from getting into a romantic relationship and then shares how to resolve these beliefs. And she also shares common troubles people run into that prevent them from staying in a relationship.

We’re talking about how anxiety can damage the sexual passion in a relationship

Don’t think that this is a problem of will-power. There are things happening in your body and mind that you can get some relief for. It might not be overnight but don’t give up.

Depression and SA... When medication is your best option

Dr. David Lake talks about how depression can be related to social anxiety, and about the different kinds of depression. He speaks of the kind that gets results, and the kind of depression for which you need medication. Here are a few quotes (this is a MUST listen if you’re depressed):

“When people have “melancholic depression” and they just drag themselves around and they can’t think and they can’t do anything at all, they’re absolutely exhausted all day long that’s actually a nasty business and is very very serious. And it’s important to recognise it because ordinary psychological treatments don’t work at all. Not at all. Not in the slightest. Whereas with the other kind of depression, where people are reactive to life, either over a long period or fairly quickly, reactive to negative events, you can often use psychological treatments very successfully. Especially the energy therapy treatments.”

“Doctors and alternative practitioners speak about how depression can be treated psychologically. They actually think that you either give medication or you shouldn’t. If it’s mild or moderate you can try treating your depression with psychological techniques. But if it isn’t mild or moderate, but it’s moderate or severe, you should really consider taking medication.”

“We need the best of both worlds, we need the best of orthodox medicine and we need the best of natural medicine.”

“Medication doesn’t treat an underlying problem, but it gives you an opportunity to address all these personality issues that people bring to the table when they have depression.”

“A lot of people don’t realise that anxiety and depression often coexist. And even that depression can drive anxiety. So when you actually treat the depression properly a tremendous amount of anxiety may well resolve quite quickly.”

TAT in awesome Energy Psychology technique you would love knowing about so you can start using it to shed your social anxiety.

Tapas shares: “A lot of people feel like “oh I really want to release this, why haven’t I released this, what’s my problem why am I holding on to it?!”.. but it’s not something a person is doing consciously. It’s not in conscious control unless you’ve got a technique, unless you’ve got a way to connect with that (referring to what you want to release). It’s kind of like talking to your computer and saying “turn on!” and then complaining “why is it not turning on? why is it not working? what’s wrong with me?” But you need a keyboard to be able to turn it on. You have to have a way in. TAT is a way to get in.

One of the cool things about TAT is that you don’t have to talk about it, think about it, or figure anything out. You don’t have to look for any deep inner causes, you don’t have to dig or search, you just deal with whatever’s up. Ow, I feel like I can’t breathe when I’m in a group of people.. and I start to sweat.. well, then you just work with that; you work with whatever’s there for you.”

QUOTE: I recommend you keep a journal and take notes because you can get so much better so fast that it’s hard to relate to where you were an hour ago, or 20minutes ago.

How to make dating comfortable and safe

“People now react differently to me”

The words of Cathy Vartuli, who didn’t date for 13 years because she’s a 320 pound woman who was afraid to get rejected for her weight. She did a session with an expert and two weeks later she was dating and has been on hundreds of dates since.

In this interview, Cathy (who is a sex-positive Emotional Freedom Coach who helps people transform their traumas into their greatest strengths using love, laughter and inner guidance) shares her story. She for example says:

“I had all the fears about how I looked. As I worked through it, I realised all of us have insecurities. And that was a big A-HA moment. I thought I was the only person in the world that felt awkward and out of place and everybody else was fine. Because I can’t see in other people’s heads, I had this belief that they had it all together and it was just me that’s messed up. When I started letting go of that enough to get closer to people I realised everybody feels awkward.”

Is massive change too good to be true?

She says: We get what we focus on. Beliefs are not truths and they haven’t come out of thin air. They don’t just descend on us. We attach to them usually as a consequence of a decision we make when something happens to us.

These beliefs are not what we really are. But as long as we hold on to them we get what we're expecting. We attract people who kind of confirm and give us evidence that we’re not good enough.

How to stop worrying and take control of your mind

He shares two simple and effective techniques you can use immediately to let go of worrying and release stress. He says:

Anxiety relies on triggering sympathetic nervous system consistently, which is the part of your nervous system that is all about fighting beasts. It triggers adrenaline, it triggers cortisol, noradrenaline and dopamine as well… but is is very linked to the speed at which we talk.

Your breathing is linked to your internal voice speed. Slow your internal voice speed down and your breathing will slow down. Slow down your breathing and your nervous system will start to settle and get back to balance.

QUOTE: If you start to use the pathway towards calm more and more then what will happen is the connection to the stress pathway will start to fade. The gap will increase between that pathway and the stress pathway. And, the gap between that pathway and the happiness and calm pathway will get smaller. And so more and more nerve pathways will start to develop into happiness calm and relaxation.

Amazing: Why stopping porn could reduce your social anxiety

Your social anxiety can be the result of a porn addiction…

In this fascinating interview Gary Wilson, author and researcher on Pornography and it’s addiction, shares the science behind how internet porn addiction could be the CAUSE of your social anxiety. 

He shares how hundreds of guys who stopped porn reported their social anxiety released.

And how non-anxious people’s desire to socialise increased, their confidence increased, they became more social. And, how some with diagnosed social anxiety and medication saw improvement or full remission of their condition by stopping porn.

This goes into the science behind it in an easily understood way.

And he also shares:

What to do to increase your will power and decrease your social anxiety within 8 weeks.

Why socialising or small talk can become boring (and how this can be reversed

Why you could be having trouble being disciplined

What sexual dysfunctions out there (erectile disfunction, unable to ejaculate, bizarre fetishes, etc) are the result of porn and how these can be reversed

QUOTE: Many studies have pointed to the dopamine system being important in socialising. Studies on social anxiety have found that maybe less dopamine is being produced or people with social anxiety have less dopamine receptors. There are also experiments on animals and even humans where they’ll purposely decrease dopamine and you’ll see a rise in anxiety and a rise in avoiding other animals or social contact. So it’s clear that the dopamine system is very important cause the dopamine system is the system that is motivating you to go out and seek rewards. The primary rewards for all social animals are of course food and water, but also sex and of course socialising. Maybe addiction-related brain changes are reversed when people give up porn and then they seek out normal rewards such as socialising.

We use what’s going on in the body and the mind to elicit the response from a trauma and then “tap” so that the levels of the stress hormone come down. It’s like pavlovian conditioning; it’s un-pairing the response with the traumatic experience.

How to me more social and make friends easily

Teun is "effortlessly socially confident". And it's likely not what you think it is. Teun is a friend I met while living in Chiang Mai. He's someone who embodies "effortless social confidence" and I've personally learned a lot from him, just by spending time with him. 

In this interview I'm asking him questions to get into his mindset, to uncover his beliefs, to see why he's so comfortable with himself, and what he does (strategies, what to say, what to do, etc) to make friends easily and have a great time socially.

How to become emotionally strong and have healthy boundaries

"It is life-changing, the results are very very compelling"

The words of Dr. David Lake, a medical practitioner, supervisor of therapists, and psychotherapist who has been in private practice since 1977.

He shares his views on energy psychology, tapping, creating boundaries, and when face to face therapy is necessary and the benefits of it.

He shares: I used to think that myself (that I would have to live with my fears for the rest of my life) as it was my evidence from the real world and it was also true in the psychological and medical profession in the usual sense. And it's been true for many many years. But, approximately 20 years ago things started to change; a whole new paradigm emerged. In this paradigm, the so-called energy psychology, it turns out that even though when you don’t know exactly how it works, you can actually help three kinds of serious human emotion to minimise and even disappear.

One is most kinds of anxiety. Two is most kinds of fear. Three is most kinds of deep hurt, related especially to trauma. I don't mean right away, or in one go, or in 10 minutes, but over time the most astounding things can happen to those feelings that have been typically out of reach for other treatments.

Other treatments, which I call outdated, typically are cognitive treatments working in the mind and most people think that's where the problem lies, but I no longer believe that. I think the problem is not in your mind, I think the problem is in your feelings which is somewhere coded or logged or anchored in your body.

It is a brand-new day when you can actually reduce anxiety fear and hurt. Your body is processing these feelings away from where they are stored. And once they are gone they are gone

When I found out I could release the fear I could actually not believe it.

This is the reason I actually entered the profession (psychotherapy), to be able to get these kind of results, and for many years I never could, I was amazed. And now that you can get these kind of results I'm equally amazed the most of the profession doesn't want to know about it!

Needless to say, this is an absolute killer interview that is must listen, and also a must-share. Get ready to have your perspective shifted forever!

How to reconnect with your true Self

Free yourself from your past and create social confidence

"You’re not born with social anxiety, it is learned"

The words of Gwyneth Moss, an EFT Master (one of the only 29 worldwide) who holds certificates in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy and the Human Givens approach to Psychotherapy. 

She's studied the works of Dr Robert Scaer, a leader in the field of trauma research.

She shares:

If the way you’re behaving, thinking or feeling doesn’t fit what is happening in the here and now, when you’re not feeling calm for no reason, when you can’t think straight in a situation, or when you can’t act sensibly and resourcefully... 

...you’re being affected by your past!

She shares in simple terms how our past affects our day to day experiences and how we can use EFT to release the hold the past has on us, so that we can free ourselves and live lives of calm confidence.

She shared how you go from re-living your past to re-telling it; no longer being emotionally connected to your past, being able to live in the now. 

QUOTE: With social anxiety your animal brain is going “it’s not safe, it’s not safe!” and your thinking brain is trying to go “yes it is, it’s ok” , but there is no trust and the two are going in opposite directions. And your animal brain always wins because it’s mission is your protection and your pleasure. It wants to protect you and keep you safe. It doesn’t trust the thinking mind cause the thinking mind is slow. If you were in real danger you need your animal instincts to keep you safe. In real danger you don’t have time to think. When there is any sense of danger the animal brain does not trust the thinking brain. 

EFT is therapy for your inner animal brain. Overcoming social anxiety is not about your thinking brain, it’s not what you think. It’s about your physical animal you, and helping that to feel safe.

Gene suffered from specific social anxiety: "I was totally fine performing on stage for 7000 people. But when I was engaging with a person 1 on 1 I didn’t have control because the other person had more agency, they could make choices. And that unpredictability of how they would respond was crippling. For me it was the starting of conversations." 

We go into depth on the journey from social anxiety to social confidence and Gene shares what he did to overcome his social anxiety using the tapping, and he also paints a picture of what to expect, and what mindset to take to keep going. 

QUOTE: The times that I feel anxious, the times that I feel overwhelmed, the times that I feel insecure it’s because I on some level have decided “my worth is determined by how someone else judges and evaluates me”. When I am in a position where I recognise my own worth, and I am making that judgment myself and seeing myself as worthy because that’s intrinsic about me, then navigating my day is really easy. I’m no longer trying to appease or try to live up to someone else’s definition of success and I’m just simply trying to be me in this moment. And when I do that I have so much more control. How to deal with severe social anxiety

"There is hope for everyone" says Sophia Cayer, one of the only 29 EFT founding Masters who has been devoted to a full-time EFT practice and has been teaching EFT since 2000. 

Sophia has had more than 12 000 client sessions and is known for finding core issues and working with tough challenges. 

We go into depth on the things that prevent people from letting go their social anxiety. We go into why some people stay stuck, and what can be done to get unstuck. 

She says: It takes courage to do the work but you will find it worthwhile. And what is great about EFT is the fact that you don’t necessarily have to tell your story and get into detail. There are so many subtle ways to get to the situation, so if there’s a concern to talk about things or reveal things that are uncomfortable, know there are gentle and subtle ways to get to these things and clear them. The process does not have to be horrifying or incredibly painful. Not saying their can’t be or won’t be moments where there will be intense emotion, but for the most part there things can be worked through in a gentle way and you really likely will be amazingly surprised with the process. And with EFT you can work on yourself in between sessions to help you find more calm resolve in daily situations. 

We discuss the process of working with a practitioner, and dispel some of the myths and share what to expect. 

QUOTE: I absolutely believe there is hope for everyone. I’ve seen people turn things around they thought were impossible. Whatever is causing the social anxiety, those things can be worked through. There are gentle and subtle ways to get to these things and clear them. The process does not have to be horrifying or incredibly painful. Do this and you can beat your SA don't do it and suffer forever

The most important thing to understand to beat your social anxiety is what we discuss today: "overcoming subconscious resistance".

When you don't overcome this resistance, you cannot become anxiety-free. Ever.

Lindsay Kenny, one of the only 29 EFT Founding Masters, a Life Coach, and EFT AAMET Trainer of Trainers is the expert on subconscious resistance and shares her wisdom on the podcast. 

She says “If you haven’t been able to overcome your problem you have a subconscious resistance to change.”

Consciously you want to change, but your subconscious (which is much bigger than your conscious mind) says: “We’re not changing because if I go out into a social situation, I’m gonna get hurt, remember what happened last time?!”

She also guides you through an exercise to overcome this subconscious resistance easily and quickly. This is a MUST-listen.

QUOTE: Conventional psychology says “let’s desensitise you from that fear by forcing you to face it, little steps at a time where you grid your teeth and bite your finger nails, have your heart pounding and your knuckles white, and you’re just miserable doing it… And all the time your subconscious is yelling NO don’t make me do this!! Sometimes this (forcefully facing your fears) does work, but it’s so hard to do this. The simple thing is to just neutralise the subconscious resistance to changing.

Self acceptance - a key to social comfort

Loving your sensitivity and feeling safe being vulnerable

We talk about the necessity of owning your sensitivity and getting yourself to a place where it becomes safe to be vulnerable. Tom grew up in the UK and sensitivity was seen as weak and pathetic. Same for where I’m from. This has set us both on a journey to exploring our sensitivity.
