"Can We Feed The World?" with Joel Salatin

Fri, Feb 19, 2016

Joel Salatin, Impassioned, charismatic and and incredibly well-informed, presents facts about mundane things -- dirt, farms, food -- in a way you'd never considered before. He explores how out of balance current assumptions about the food chain have become and seeks to answer the question - how can we feed the world?

I should give Joel Salatin a royalty for every time I quote him. When I am feeling powerless, I often remember his quip, “the current state of the world is simply the aggregate of billions of little decisions.” I first discovered Joel in the movie Food Inc and we pursued him endlessly to come to Wanderlust. He’s been gracious to come many times. Joel is an author, farmer and owner of the Virginia-based bio-dynamic farm, Polyface. Here’s his talk, “Can We Feed The World?” from Copper MT Colorado in 2013.

"Body Ecology" with Dr. Aviva Romm

Mon, Feb 15, 2016

Dr. Aviva Romm talks about the relationship between women, their bodies, and the earth in this lecture. She shares stories of women she’s encountered throughout her work as a midwife, clinical herbalist, and physician that have felt the influence of the outside world on their inner health, whether it’s interpersonal relationships, stress, or the foods they’re eating. We’re getting mixed messages from society about what is and isn’t normal, and what we are and are not capable of, as women. We can take back control.

After 30 years as a home-birth midwife, herbalist and physician, Dr. Aviva Romm has one core message, “your body’s ability to heal is greater than anyone has permitted you to believe.” Here’s Dr. Aviva Romm with “Body Ecology” from Stratton, Vermont, 2014

"Folks, This Ain't Normal" with Joel Salatin

Wed, Feb 10, 2016

Joel Salatin speaks about numerous aspects of farming, food, and nutrition, including the reasons gluten intolerance seems to have skyrocketed in recent years. He discusses life, balance and why it's important for children to have chores -- hint: it's not the discipline, it's the visceral connection to the cycle of life and tangible objects that surround them.

We first discovered Joel Salatin in the movie Food Inc. and we pursued him endlessly to come to Wanderlust. Joel has a uniquely powerful way of describing how we’ve created an unnatural food system - that has led to the current epidemics of chronic disease - child obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Joel is an author, farmer and owner of the Virginia-based bio-dynamic farm, Polyface. Here’s his talk, “Folks, this ain’t normal” from Stratton MT, VT, 2012.
