Is LeBron just playing with his food? LeBron Lost a Playoff game ladies and laddies! ALL HAIL BRAD AND HIS COLLECTIVE OF SOULS! Something forced their hand, and we truly wonder what was the motivation behind this loss for the Cavs? Make them restless, or uncomfortable? Congrats on #notgettingswept. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come, but is it? Isaiah Thomas is out for the remainder of the playoffs, and you win without him? I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO THINK ABOUT THE CELTICS ANYMORE. On the NBA Beat Ep. 2.35: Missing Kawhi and “Peak Powers” LeBron With Paul Garcia, Tas Melas

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Fri, May 19, 2017

In this two-part episode, The Starters’ Tas Melas joins us to discuss the league’s biggest storylines, such as the highly anticipated third straight Warriors-Cavaliers Finals matchup, the Celtics’ rapid and robust rebuild and Paul George and Gordon Hayward not qualifying for max extensions. But first, Paul Garcia of Project Spurs and Analyzing the League stops by to detail the incredible impact Kawhi Leonard’s injury has had and will continue to have on San Antonio’s prospects of upsetting the mighty Warriors. If you need to get in the mood, peep a handful of excerpted quotes below: Paul Garcia: 8:45-9:28: “If there’s one lineup I think that can work, it’s [Dewayne] Dedmon at the 5. The only problem with that, which is why Pop hasn’t really been playing him, is that he slows down the ship on offense. He can’t shoot from the outside, he’s obviously just a rim runner, but defenses are good enough in the playoffs are good enough to take that away… They can try to go small… but they don’t have a team built to play small. They have a team built to play big, so that’s something they have trouble with. And the Warriors haven’t even thrown out their best stuff yet.” PG: 13:31-13:47: “Based on their track record, they’re going to respond. Whether they win or lose, they’re definitely going to put up a fight in Game 3; that’s with or without Kawhi. I think you’re going to see a different San Antonio team…It could become a blowout, but at least initially, it won’t be like ‘This game was over in the first quarter.’” PG: 16:19-16:35: “Another thing that nobody’s talking about is that you see the absence of Tony Parker as well. There’s really three ball handlers who can kind of penetrate the defense off the pick and roll and get into the paint for San Antonio, and that’s Kawhi, Tony Parker and Jonathon Simmons. The Spurs are without two of those guys, and Simmons has only become that in these last two series.” Tas Melas: 41:18-42:08: “I think LeBron is at his peak powers right now. Those three [2016 NBA Finals] games, Games 5, 6 and 7, elevated him to another level where he’s just running over teams now. He didn’t used to do this. He’s had incredible playoff performances, but he didn’t really steamroll, he didn’t really come out of the locker room and just dominate in every aspect of the game. I think he’s the best version of himself, the most comfortable he’s ever been with himself…That’s why this series [the likely Cavaliers-Warriors Finals matchup] is so promising. This is, again, peak LeBron versus pretty close to peak Curry and peak Durant.” TM: 55:31-56:15: “A smaller-market team has far more power, because they can offer more money to the guys that they currently have on the roster using the Larry Bird rights. Love that. But the fact that it [maximum contract size] is tied to things on the r?sum? [All-NBA designations], it doesn’t really make much sense. So the fact that he [Paul George] didn’t make an All-NBA team, either of those guys [George or Gordon Hayward], it leads you to believe that there’s more of a chance that the Lakers can obtain Paul George because the money isn’t all that different…It doesn’t make sense to me. I think it’s time they disconnect those two factors.” You can subscribe to, rate and review On the NBA Beat on iTunes Music: “Who Likes to Party” by Kevin MacLeod

Salt City Hoops Ep. 164: Gobert’s All-NBA, Hayward isn’t

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Fri, May 19, 2017

On this week's episode of the Salt City Hoops Show, hosts Andy Larsen, Ben Anderson, and Zach Harper talk about the All-NBA announcements, and what they mean for the Jazz. Obviously, Rudy Gobert's naming to Second Team All-NBA is a big deal, but what does Hayward's status off the list (and his distance from being named All-NBA) do for his free agency choices this year? We talk about what it means. The other big topic of conversation: our lunch meeting with Dennis Lindsey today. What did we learn from talking with the Jazz executive about Derrick Favors, George Hill, Gordon Hayward, and even the luxury tax? We also talk about the possibility of the Jazz signing Milos Teodosic, and whether or not he'd be a good fit in a Jazz uniform. All that and more on this week's episode of the Salt City Hoops Show!

The Debate-A-Bulls Ep. 20: NBA Lottery myths and Bulls prospects (O.G. Anunoby, T.J. Leaf, Terrance Ferguson, Donovan Mitchell)

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Tue, May 16, 2017

The guys are back with an extended show full of NBA Lottery and Bulls Draft talk. The guys spend the first segment talking about the conspiracy theories surrounding the NBA Draft. Do people still believe that the NBA Lottery is altered? The guys break out some of the best theories and debunk them. The guys then talk about the possible scenarios in which Jimmy Butler could be involved in rumors once again. What happens if Boston does not land the first pick Tuesday night? Will the Lakers back the talk about potentially landing UCLA's Lonzo Ball? Would the Lakers take him with the No. 1 pick or could that be a potential trade piece for Jimmy Butler or Paul George. The guys spend the back half of the show talking about several of potential Bulls targets after the NBA Combine. The guys run down players like Indiana's O.G. Anunoby, UCLA's T.J. Leaf, International Pro Terrance Ferguson, and Louisville's Donovan Mitchell. How many of these guys would be available for Chicago at No. 16? Jordan has concerns with Leaf while Matt is reluctant about Anunoby's knee injury. The show wraps up with the Debate-A-Bulls segment 'Log Off'. Victims of Log Off include topics such as Greg Popovich being overrated and LeBron James being declared the better than MJ. All off this and so much more on The Debate-A-Bulls.

Tue, May 16, 2017

Day 31 of RTP's NBA Playoff Coverage with Hondo 'n Ghee starts with a conversation about bouncers and ends in a complete cliff hangar as the team that shall not be named will be facing up against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Wizards have a lot to tip their wizzardy hats to, but something has to change in the mentality of their star players. STICK to the offense- stick to what got you here. Boston... I have no idea what the hell Olynyk had for breakfast, but it probably involved spinach. Marcus Smart was unstoppable as well, and this Boston team is easy to doubt, but hard to scratch off. Good luck to them. By the way, they have the best odds at the first pick in the NBA. Add that to this team? Verrrrrryyy interesting development to come for Boston, but until then... watch them get swept. Get well soon, Kawhi. You'll always get all the recaps here so stay with us here at RTP for literally everything you'll ever need everyone.

On the NBA Beat Ep. 2.34: Wizards Must Overcome Road Woes to Advance, Featuring Chase Hughes & Michael Pina

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Fri, May 12, 2017

Chase Hughes of Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic and Vice Sports’ Michael Pina deliver back-to-back interviews in which they delve deeply into the captivating Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics. While the Celtics lead 3-2, the home team has won every single game of the series. No love between the teams has been lost either. Wednesday was a crazy day for D.C. sports fans as the Washington Capitals hosted a Game 7 in which they fell to the Penguins, sending the Caps home early for yet another summer. Also in the nation’s capital, the talented Nationals roared back from four runs down to defeat the Beltway rival Orioles on a walk-off single. That same night, the Wizards lost a one-sided road Game 5 to the Celtics. As the series shifts back to D.C., the Wizards hope to keep their home magic alive just long enough to get one more crack at that elusive road victory in a decisive Game 7. Our guests expertly detail what to look for the remainder of the series, beginning with Chase Hughes who is followed by Michael Pina in the final segment. Below, you'll find a couple excerpts from each section: Chase Hughes (5:02-6:05) on the tense recent history between the Wizards and Celtics: "I knew that there would be some bad blood between these teams, because it dates back really to last season when Jae Crowder got into an argument with their [Washington's] former coach Randy Wittman and accused him of using some obscenities. And then Bradley Beal had his nose broken against the Celtics and got a concussion and has always held that against them. Then all the bad blood this season, the confrontation between Wall and Crowder after that game in Boston, the funeral game that the Wizards had, and John Wall was ejected from a game for a hard foul on Marcus Smart...After that Wall and Crowder incident, the police had to intervene behind the scenes in Boston to make sure that they didn't go after each other. We knew it was there, but the extent it boiled over in Game 3, I don't think any of us could have predicted…There were eight technicals, three ejections, and of course, Kelly Oubre's shove of Kelly Olynyk earned him a suspension, and that kind of highlighted it all. There was also Brandon Jennings and Terry Rozier, and they also have a history dating back to earlier this season." CH (9:37-10:44) on how the Wizards have adjusted to guarding superstar Isaiah Thomas and what the Celtics did in Game 5 to counteract those Wizards adjustments: "They've made a few adjustments, most notably throwing two or three guys at him trying to double, triple-team him, especially when he gets into the lane, and defending without fouling, with their hands up in the air. They did obviously a really good job in Game 4. I think they've also done better, at least in Games 3 and 4, at making him work more on the defensive end and not letting him save his energy by backing him down with Otto Porter, Bojan Bogdanovic, and with Bradley Beal in Game 4 in particular, who got into a rhythm early because of it. But I think in Game 5 what Isaiah Thomas did a good job of doing as an adjustment was, first of all, he shot seven free-throw attempts, which is much more in line with what he averaged during the regular season, but also he got a little better at finding open guys once the defense collapsed on him. I think he had nine assists in the game and I think he did a very good job of finding open 3-point shooters. The Celtics made an adjustment, and it really worked to have him get into the lane and, I think, pass earlier than he probably was trying to pass in Games 3 and 4 before the defense can truly collapse, and they found a lot of open looks." Michael Pina (39:00-39:46) on the immense defensive value Avery Bradley has brought to the Celtics during these playoffs guarding Jimmy Butler in the first round and now slowing John Wall in the Eastern Conference semifinals:

Golden State of Mindcast: Sitting down with Marcus Thompson II to discuss ‘The Miraculous Rise of Steph Curry’

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Wed, May 10, 2017

Beloved Warriors scribe Marcus Thompson II has a fantastic new book out called, “Golden: The Miraculous Rise of Steph Curry.” We did a giveaway a few weeks ago, but if you didn’t win the giveaway, or if you haven’t yet picked up a copy of the book, DO IT NOW! Seriously, it is required reading for all Warriors fans. We were very happy to welcome Marcus to the pod, as he sat with us for well over an hour, talking about the book, talking about Curry, telling future kids to get off our lawn, and much, much more. You can listen here! Also, as you may have noticed, we are extremely excited to announce that we have joined the Almighty Baller Podcast Network. Big things are on the horizon for the Mindcast show. Welcome Marcus! [Editor’s note: We recorded this the day before Game 4 of the Jazz series.] 2:30 - Steph (on court killer) vs. Mr. Curry (worldwide brand mogul) vs. Stephen (home/dad/family). 8:00 - LeBron’s stardom, and for whatever reason not embracing Stephen Curry’s family guy persona. 12:45 - The uncertainty of Curry’s potential ankle reconstruction surgery, and how he didn’t know if his career was maybe over. His rise from the ashes of his own career to become the face of the NBA. (Just remembering how many ankle injuries he suffered). 16:45 - Curry’s injuries stopped once he went to Mark Jackson’s church and they prayed over his ankle (actually, not really). Marcus talks about Steph had to hop on his injured ankle in front of Jackson’s congregation. 21:00 - The race and religion element of Curry’s experience, especially as it relates to him being “light skinned,” and how he addresses it in public and in private. Him being called or considered “soft.” 28:00 - How much does Curry’s faith impact his on/off court behavior, especially as he adsorbs everyone’s fouls and disrespect? [Marcus asks that we cue the Gospel music, we comply. Full disclosure, I couldn’t find any open source organ music that wouldn’t get us in trouble, so I just recorded this myself in my studio.] 30:45 - Steph also thinks this “all happened really fast.” 38:00 - What else can Steph do to get respect from his peers? 41:30 - Warriors forming the new core four, core five of players who are going to be around for a long time, a la the Spurs. 50:00 - Curry as a leader in comparison to Jordan, Iverson, and Kobe. The way he set the tone for this culture and this team is amazing. 55:45 - Did Marcus have to hold stories back because he’s still so intimately tied to the team. Also, a funny story about his “East Oakland sensors” and maybe getting hustled. 1:02:00 - How we are all gonna those old guys telling kids to get off our lawn and go watch Steph clips on their VR goggles. 1:08:30 - Marcus’ reasons for writing this book.

Tue, May 09, 2017

The guys are back with another episode and the first of the true off-season. The Bulls will have plenty of work to do this off-season filling holes from the last. Jordan and Matt start the show off with the biggest headline from the weekend, Lavar Ball. The Big Baller Brand has once again outdone themselves, pricing NBA prospect Lonzo Ball's new shoe at $495. Jordan and Matt begin to break down a few of the NBA prospects the Bulls will be looking this summer. Who might be slide down and be someone the Bulls must take? Matt thinks it might be a guy who just won the National Championship. Who are the guys the Bulls should completely avoid? Jordan thinks it's a guy from California who bid to stay an extra year and his draft stock tumbled. The guys finish up the show with a segment called 'Log-Off'. The worst takes on social media of the week presented by Matt and Jordan. All of this and so much more on The Debate-A-Bulls.

Thu, May 04, 2017

This episode previously aired on Dash Radio Thursday, May 4th, 2017, 6-7 a.m. and 11-12 p.m CT. The guys are back reacting to the John Paxson and Gar Forman's season-ending press conference. What appeared to be a replay of last year's conference, the guys try to figure out what has changed in a years time. Did Gar/Pax throw Fred Hoiberg under the bus as he headed out of town? The front office provides fans and media members with a trail of hypocrisy and the Debate-A-Bulls is here to discuss. What was the most disappointing part of this press conference? What players do the front office plan on bringing back for the 2017-18 season? Has Rajon Rondo come out as the front offices' most impressed? Will Nikola Mirotic be back for 2017-18? The front office blames draft position, cap space and injuries for their failures this season. What sort of shake up do the Bulls plan on making this summer with the coaching staff? We finish the show with a crazy scenario from one NBA expert that believes the Bulls should pursue elite stars who want out of their city. Who are two of the young Bulls that have been highly praised around the NBA? We tell you who those guys are and what the league has to say about them. All of this and so much more on the Debate-A-Bulls.

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Mon, May 01, 2017

The guys are back after a weekend in which ended the Chicago Bulls season. The Bulls fell to the Boston Celtics in Game 6 at home leaving the Bulls with plenty of questions this offseason. The guys talk about the comments made by Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade in regards to their future. Does the Bulls front office believe Jimmy can be the guy this team can build around, not with? Jordan has a theory on why Butler wants to stay put in Chicago. The Bulls have one player, in particular, that is being campaigned to stay for the 2017-18 season. Why Rajon Rondo will likely be back in a Bulls uniform in 2017-18. How are the young Bulls going to spend their offseason and what are they promised going forward? Denzel Valentine talks about an increased role with the team and a repeat at the Summer League Title. Paul Zipser and Bobby Portis have plans to become more versatile players, spending the summer modeling their games after some of the NBA's best at their position. The guys wrap up with talking about what to expect from Fred Hoiberg and Gar/Pax. What kind of direction will the front office and coaching staff give to the players and fans who so desperately need direction? We hope to find out the Bulls offseason plans sooner rather than later. On the NBA Beat Ep. 2.32: Zach Harper: With Continuity, Jazz Could Become “Best Non-Warriors Lineup in NBA”

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Fri, Apr 28, 2017

Before this season, the Utah Jazz had made their last postseason appearance in 2012 and hadn't won a playoff game since 2010. Since then, they bottomed out at 25 wins in 2013-14, then steadily built themselves back up by developing players, finding diamonds in the rough, and, this season, adding some key veterans to their squad. Now, up 3-2 on the Los Angeles Clippers and heading home to Utah for Friday's Game 6, they're on the brink of advancing to the next round to face the Golden State Warriors. Zach Harper, an NBA columnist for Fan Rag Sports, twice-a-week participant on ESPN's TrueHoop Podcast and co-host of the Salt City Hoops Show, takes us through that journey. He breaks down what we can expect for the rest of the Jazz's postseason, explains how they're so dangerous on both sides of the court, looks at some big decisions looming ahead in the offseason and tells excellent stories and more. Not to toot our own horn, but you can sample some mellifluous excerpts below: 7:19-8:07: “You’ve allowed the Jazz to kind of dictate so much of the tempo to be a slow, grind-it-out game, and that’s what they want. They want to play at that slow pace. They want to force you to defend for 24 seconds. They want to force you to attack late in the shot clock against them and have to panic into shots and everything. So that’s the tough thing for the Clippers, and maybe why Game 5 was a little bit of a must-win. Just because you can’t be back against the wall while also not being able to play the brand of basketball you want to play in a series. With that said, the Jazz are looking at Game 6 as a must-win, because they don’t want to go back to LA. I kind of think that’s a mistake. It puts an unnecessary amount of pressure on the home team, especially one with such a young core.” 11:58-12:41: “A lot of people locally will say it [the team MVP] has been Rudy Gobert because [of] the defensive impact. Gordon [Hayward]’s a really good defender. He plays really well defensively within that system, and he’s so vital to them offensively that, to me, it’s just enough to edge out what Gobert’s been able to do, who might be the Defensive Player of the Year and was the second-best pick ‘n roll big man this year in the NBA, but Gordon, his patience…you see so many star wings go into this hero mode and this iso[lation] mode and maybe rush shots and rush possessions, because you have to make sure you get a shot off, right? But Gordon just always plays within the flow of the offense and doesn’t really force anything, doesn’t take bad shots.” 18:09-18:42: “There’s a shot of it [Joe Johnson’s game-winning shot in Game 1 of the series] where it’s zoomed on him [Johnson] as he gets the ball on the left wing and he’s squared up against Jamal Crawford, and you see the Jazz bench. You see Trey Lyles, you see Alec Burks, you see these guys on the Jazz bench. And there’s no, ‘Oh my God, I hope he hits this. This is such a moment.’ This is like an AND1 Mixtape Tour. They’re like, ‘Go get him. Go get him.’ They’re yelling, ‘Expose him.’ It’s everything. I’m sure someone’s yelling ‘Worldstar’ in the background. They know something bad’s gonna happen.” 29:36-30:15: “The one thing about the Clippers, though, is they were very successful against him [Gobert] in the regular season, and granted, that’s the regular season…but they’ve talked about how they don’t really change the way they play just because he’s in the game. They’re gonna run the same stuff, they’re gonna attack the same way, and I believe that. It’s up to Gobert to win that battle. But for the first most part in the regular season, DeAndre Jordan outplayed him in those head-to-head battles, and that’s something that I think sticks with Gobert [and] makes him want to close out this series and prove that he should have been the All-Star over DeAndre, he should be [on] the All-Defensive First Team over DeAndre. I think there’s a huge individual proving ground for him,

Golden State of MindCast: Will Steve Kerr’s absence hurt his legacy?

Author: Golden State of Mindcast
Fri, Apr 28, 2017

Ivan is a Steve Kerr hater. Bram obviously has to put him in his place. We discuss that and much more on the latest episode of Golden State of Mindcast! Annotated list of topics covered: 0:50 - Apparently I’m an “excitable lad.” 1:00 - The Warriors crushed the Trail Blazers. 2:30 - Did we jinx the Clippers for the second year in a row?! 5:50 - I can’t pronounce Joe Ingles’ name. 8:45 - Doc Rivers needs to be removed as “Captain” of the “Clippers.” 9:15 “Imagine Steve Ballmer in a made-for-TV rendition of the poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.” 11:25 - Let’s talk about basketball that actually matters. 13:45 - Rudy Gobert vs. Draymond Green potential matchup. Really, I’m more excited about Gobert vs. JaVale Mcgee. 17:30 - Ivan’s cue to cut me off from speaking. 19:15 - “Huh, Joe Johnson plays for the Utah Jazz? That’s weird.” 21:20 - People hate Radiohead? 28:00 - Potential Warriors vs. Utah match-ups. 33:50 - Addressing the Steve Kerr situation. 37:00 - Ivan, maybe kinda thinks the players might have more control on the court under Mike Brown. 40:00 - I’m obviously in love with Kerr. 41:30 - Ivan is super anti-Kerr and I hate him for it. Also, he says the word “optics” a lot. 45:40 - Suddenly we are ranting about “Jeb” York, for some reason. 55:02 - “[Kerr] just stepped into a situation that was awesome. Mark Jackson built this thing.” “Oh man, I just wanna murder everybody.” 1:00:00 - Could the Warriors have won a championship under Stan Van Gundy, if they didn’t hire Kerr? 1:02:45 “Charisma and Balls.”

The Debate-A-Bulls Ep. 15: Fourth Quarter Turmoil and D-Wade-Shade

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Thu, Apr 27, 2017

This episode previously aired on Dash Radio Thursday, April 27th, 2017, 6-7 a.m. and 11-12 p.m CT. The guys are back with their reaction from Game 5 in Boston. A very winnable game turned so quickly into one that the Bulls should want to forget. Jordan and Matt discuss what was working for the Bulls early and why they trended away from that in the fourth quarter. Is Fred Hoiberg being out coached? Jordan seems to think so and he explains why. The possibility of Rondo returning in this series is discussed. What changed the outlook of Rondo's return? An update on Rondo's injury status and why it will be extremely unlikely he returns in Game 6. How Isaiah Canaan was inherently asked to fill a role fluttered with expectations and how he fared in Game 5. The guys talk about Dwyane Wade and his impact so far in this playoff. Wade had a boxscore sort of night but Matt and Jordan seem to think Wade has begun to hurt the Bulls late. How can the Bulls find a way to pull off a win at home on Friday? Will Fred continue to juggle lineups? Who will be the experiment to get legitimate playing time? Will Fred finally decide to let his lottery pick play? All of this and so much more on The Debate-A-Bulls.

Golden State of MindCast: As the Warriors dominate the first round, we brazenly look ahead to Round 2

Author: Golden State of Mindcast
Sat, Apr 22, 2017

Last year around this very same time, Golden State of Mindcast feverishly roasted the LA Clippers and salivated at the Warriors dismantling them in the next round of the playoffs. During that very recording, Chris Paul broke a bone in his hand and derailed the Clippers' playoff run. Fast forward to last night, when we got carried away with yet another anti-Clippers roastfest, and, lo-and-behold, what happened? Blake Griffin injures his toe and is out for the remainder of the playoffs. This is not our fault! We are not witches! We did not curse Griffin and the Clippers, nor would we ever wish injury upon anyone! We apologize if the podcast seems tasteless in light of the news.  --------------- 1:00 - Harrison Barnes hate, for some reason 3:24 - JaVale McGee is going to be the NBA Finals MVP 5:30 - How did the Warriors dominate the Blazers in Game 2? 9:40 - No easy answers for Blazers 11:30 - Nurkic returning for Game 3 — what will be the effect? 18:04 - Moving onto the second round: Clippers or Jazz? This quickly devolves into Clippers slander 22:36 - Epic Bram monologue on why he hates the Clippers 26:53 - Fans leaving early from games: is it ok?

On the NBA Beat Ep. 2.31: Dane Carbaugh: Blazers Approaching “Make-It or Break-It Offseason”

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Fri, Apr 21, 2017

The Portland Trail Blazers’ prospects of advancing look grim, but the future is fairly bright, according to NBC Sports Pro Basketball Talk’s Dane Carbaugh, who also runs the popular YouTube channel, Dane Not Dan, where he breaks down the NBA in video form. Compared to the previous season, the relative strength of the 2016-17 Western Conference relegated the Blazers to the No. 8 seed where they had the misfortune of drawing the otherworldly Warriors in an all-but-impossible first-round series. With Golden State up 2-0 and prized trade acquisition Jusuf Nurkic nursing a leg injury, much of the conversation’s focus turns to how the Blazers can best solidify their roster and improve defensive performance. Importantly, Dane also explores the strengths and challenges that come with the Damian Lillard-C.J. McCollum backcourt pairing. Blazing hot excerpts can be found below: 3:26-4:14 While the typical Blazers fan would love to see Jusuf Nurkic grace the court against the Warriors, Dane advocates for a more cautious approach: “The Nurkic trade, I think, really re-solidified his [GM Neil Olshey’s] position; the same thing for [head coach] Terry Stotts. So nobody’s going into this playoff series thinking, ‘We need to win a series or win a game, even, to save someone’s job.’ No one’s going to get fired because of that. And on the flip side, you have the guy that they believe is going to be the third guy for this team for years to come, and so I don’t see a reason to risk him [worsening his injury] in any way, shape or form. He’s got a non-displaced fracture in his leg, and he’s a 7-foot tall, 280-pound man, and it’s the Portland Trail Blazers; maybe just let him rest. So it’s possible he comes back for Game 3. If he comes back at all, that is the game he’s going to do it in. If they’re down 3-0, there’s no reason for him to play in Game 4, so it would have to be Game 3. I don’t think he should come back at all.” 8:35-9:17 Our guest details Golden State’s Game 2 defensive adjustments that so effectively combatted Portland’s explosive guards: “I think what they really did was they figured out what points on the floor Damian and C.J. were attacking to and where on their drives. I saw a lot more drives that were ineffective as opposed to the first game in which both Damian and C.J. had the ability to hit floaters or runners from certain points on the floor where they were very clearly trying to avoid some of the shot-blocking that, say, Javale McGee or Draymond Green brings to the floor for the Warriors. And I think they really adjusted to that and saw, ‘Look, this is where a lot of their shots came from on the floor when they had those drives. This is where we’re going to try to concentrate. This is where we’re going to try to make them take an extra dribble or take a dribble away from those drives so they can’t get to that specific spot and make them uncomfortable.’ I think combined with locking down on 3-point land, that’s really what happened to them.” 18:51-21:22 Despite the defensive shortcomings of Lillard and McCollum, it’s premature to break up the talented duo, according to Dane: “If the Blazers need to do something else, that trade is not coming until summer of 2018. They have to go through an entire season together with a fully built roster that they think is ready to compete with a starting center that works for them, and that would be Jusuf Nurkic, [Al-Farouq] Aminu at the 4, Mo Harkless at the 3. They have to go through a whole season with an actually complete roster with honestly guys defensively who can back them up. Remember this is a team that played with… Nic Batum, Wes Matthews and Robin Lopez, three players that really from different positions helped eliminate some of the deficiencies for those guys…They had to get through this season, figure out what they were doing, they’re going to have to trade [Allen] Crabbe and somebody else, get their real roster together, play a whole other year with it,

Author: Almighty Baller Radio
Thu, Apr 20, 2017

This episode previously aired on Dash Radio Thursday, April 20, 2017 - 5-6 a.m. and 8-9 a.m. CT. The guys are back with a brand new episode after the Chicago Bulls take another game on the road in Boston. How could this be possible? Who is this new revitalized Bulls team and why is it coming all together now? Jordan and Matt discuss the supposed 'private meeting' between Rajon Rondo, Jimmy Butler, and Dwyane Wade prior to Game 2 of the NBA Playoffs. The guys explain whether or not they are sold on the Bulls being able to complete the 8th seed upset. The guys talk about the young Bulls stepping up in each of the first two games and who might impact Game 3 on Friday. Robin Lopez has been dominating Boston on the glass, is there any hope for the Celtics to match his performances? Even if the Bulls win this series, what does it all mean for the front office's plan for the summer? Does this sudden click between 'the Three Alphas' bring Wade and Rondo back next season? Jordan believes there is a scenario in which the Bulls pursue notable name superstars in their strive to 'retool, not rebuild'. Speaking of summer, Jordan and Matt finish the show by understanding whether the Bulls will match Nikola Mirotic's offer sheet with another team this summer. How does Mirotic stack up against some of the other leagues underperformed players' contracts? All of this and so much more on The Debate-A-Bulls.

The NBA Playoffs are underway and the Chicago Bulls have pulled the biggest upset this weekend. The guys dive into their post-game reactions from the Bulls 106-102 win over the Celtics. Jordan explains why he called it all weekend, the Bulls love to steal game one of a series as history tells us. The Bulls win on the road and NBA Twitter has a meltdown. How bad is Nikola Mirotic and will it continue? The guys discuss the fate of Nikola Mirotic and whether or not Fred will decide to make a change. Bobby Portis had a breakout game in his first NBA Playoff appearance. Could we see a similar performance from BP and could he finally be the offensive player we thought he could be? Jimmy Butler had a huge second half, how important is it for him to maintain a balance throughout the game? Jordan believes Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo still have beef. He explains his theory on both guys having carried over their problems from the regular season into the postseason. It could be just a rabbit hole but worth discussing. Ultimately what does this win mean for the Bulls long term? How does the front office perceive each playoff win the Bulls get this season? All of this and so much more on The Debate-A-Bulls.

Ben outlines Portland's turnaround from late January all the way to the closing days of the season - Ben's piece for SI.com on the Blazers outlining their near worst to playoffs and what it took to get there. The evolution after Portland acquired Jusuf Nurki? and what he's meant to Portland - The Nurki? effect on Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Does Nurki? offer enough to keep the Warriors from staying in their small all lineups? What kind of player does it take to change the paradigm? - Is Noah Vonleh the small ball big the Blazers have been looking for? Can he show something, or enough of something in this series to prove it one way or the other? - Ben and I break down the overwhelming odds facing the Trail Blazers in their first round match up with the Warriors? What's the most likely scenario and what would be a "good" outcome for Portland, save winning the series? - Moving past the playoffs, we discuss Portland's offseason priorities. What does a successful offseason look like? What can Portland do about their precarious salary situation? - Reviewing Ben's thoughts and ideas about the series and big picture takeaways. What do the Blazers need to see from Damian Lillard? - Can CJ McCollum go from a star player to a superstar? Can he take his game to an even higher level? - What does a successful post season look like for first timer Nurki??
