Audible.com is the Internet's largest provider of downloadable audiobooks, audio periodicals, and radio programs with over 6,000 audiobooks and 18,000 items to choose from. Their digital audio file is called AudibleAudio which is more compressed than an MP3 file and can be downloaded in 4 different formats that vary in sound quality and download time. Once downloaded AudibleAudio can be played on one's computer, burned to a CD, or transferred to digital audio players including Apple iPods and most MP3 players. Anyone can purchase items to download off of Audible.com, but if you join the AudibleListener monthly membership you save up to 50% off their retail audio prices. The BasicListener membership allows you to choose one 1-month audio magazine, newspaper or radio program plus one audiobook each month for $14.95 a month, and the Premium Listener membership lets you choose any two audiobooks each month for $21.95 a month. Both memberships can be cancelled at anytime, but if you agree to join for 12 months you receive a free Creative MuVo MP3 player. While most of their products are digital audio conversions of audiobooks from other publishers, they do have an AudioOriginals section of titles available only through their site. Their titles also have customer ratings and reviews to help you decide what to buy.
